The staff and student of Turves Green Girls School welcomes construction of new facilities

At the beginning of February, the staff and students of Turves Green Girls School joined the project construction team at a special event, to welcome the commencement of the contract. Providing an insight to the construction of the new school, Acivico, Balfour Beatty CSUK and Atkins, offered an insight to the progress, with a unique demonstration of a SIP panel installation. The installation was followed by a talk to the staff and students on the project advancements to date and what the facilities will offer. To further welcome the project, all attendees to the event joined in the festivities and provided additional decoration to the SIP panel with their thoughts, signatures and best wishes messages.

The school is at the heart of the community, with adjacency to both Turves Green Primary School and Turves Green Secondary Boys School. The new building will be constructed via a phased approach, allowing full operation of the current facilities and educational continuity. Offering a spatial coherence of teaching and support accommodation, the project includes modern science laboratories, technology rooms, specialist teaching areas and a purpose built SEND support provision. Due for completion in November 2021, the £21m project will accommodate 750 pupils, from age 11 to 16.

The design of the new facilities has been maximised to utilise all areas of the site, with the building being complimented with external landscaping and seating areas for the student’s social space, multi-use games area, a 630m2 sports hall, refurbished and extended MUGA and sports pitches.

They were genuinely excited to be involved, hearing of the progress being made and asking questions to the construction team about their new facilities. This project will transform their educational environment, providing a substantial and positive impact on their daily lives.  I am really looking forward to delivering this scheme through to completion and hearing the students and staff feedback when completed. This project is a great example of how the end user has engaged with the process from inception and has become a truly integrated member of the project team, this ultimately leads to a better end product that exceeds client’s expectations’
