Here @AcivicoLtd we have an ongoing commitment to supporting the wellbeing of all of our employees.  Good mental health means being able to feel, react and think in the ways that enable you to live your life. With mental health problems affecting about 1 in 4 people every year, we have implemented a programme of support and have voluntary employees within the business who provide a confidential listening ear to those who may need it and we are striving to support the breakdown of the stigma attached to mental health. It’s OK not to be OK.

Not all that feels heavy come in the form of pounds. This week’s awareness campaign is led by The Mental Health Foundation, with the theme for 2019 being focused on body image and the impact of how we think and feel about our bodies. Our thoughts and feelings about our bodies can impact us throughout our lives, affecting, more generally, the way we feel about ourselves and our mental health and wellbeing.

Research conducted in 2019 by The Mental Health Foundation states one in five UK adults said images on social media had caused them to worry about their body image and over a third of UK adults have felt anxious or depressed because of concerns about their body image. The thoughts and feelings some people have about their bodies can impact their mental health and wellbeing. Higher body dissatisfaction is associated with a poorer quality of life, psychological distress and the risk of unhealthy eating behaviours and eating disorders. Everyone has a right to feel comfortable with their own bodies and it is up to us to decide what we will or will not do with our body.

If your body image is a significant cause of stress, or if you’re being bullied about how your body looks, consider talking to a friend, a trusted adult or a health professional.

With May being National Walking month, there is no better time to get outdoors and stretch your legs. Exercise has profound and numerous benefits, both psychological and physical and if you can join your friends or colleagues at lunchtime for a brisk walk, all the better.
