Contractor Thomas Vale takes school children to new heights on Acivico project

A recent flagship Acivico project at Billesley Primary School in Birmingham saw Constructing West Midlands framework contractor Thomas Vale taking the children to new heights by recreating an iconic American construction image 'lunch atop a skyscraper'.

The original picture, taken in 1932, featured workers building a skyscraper, now known as 30 Rockefeller Centre in New York, sitting on a beam having lunch over 250m above ground. In the more recent version, pupils were positioned safely on a beam around a metre above the ground, surrounded by crash mats.

Contractor Thomas Vale conducted the exercise as part of their outreach work with schools to help the children engage with the construction work going on around them. The company is delivering the improvements to the school through the Constructing West Midlands Framework. Acivico are providing project management and quantity surveying services.
