Acivico in Stirchley Baths winning team for 2016 RICS community benefit award

Award winning seems to becoming a theme on the Acivico news pages recently and the winning streak continues.

This week the Programmes, Projects and Design team kicked this week off celebrating some more great news about the Stirchley Baths redevelopment, one of our flagship collaborations with Birmingham City Council.

At a glittering award ceremony last Friday 20th May the project received another extremely high accolade as winner of the Regional Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) award for 'Community Benefit'.

Over 250 delegates attended the awards which were held at Aston Villa football club to celebrate inspirational initiatives across the built environment – bringing people across all sectors to celebrate the region’s most innovative projects and two colleagues. Head of Service Phil McGrahan and Senior architect Mark Sloane were there as part of the winning team to scoop the prize.

The old Stirchley baths landmark in Stirchley sadly closed in 1984 due to the adverse effects of the elements. The cherished Grade II listed building became in danger of being lost forever until the community campaigned – for many years – to bring life back to the much loved building. The project, costing £3.8million has delivered, with the help of close and regular community consultation a building the residents of Stirchley and Birmingham can be truly proud of.

So it’s a pat on the back to colleagues from our Design, quantity surveying, project management, building regulations, construction design management and clerk of works services who contributed to the project. We are very proud of the recognition this project has given to a great team effort with clients in Birmingham Property Services, Districts and Balfour Beatty as contractors.

All winners will now compete against regional entries from across the UK at the RICS Awards Grand Final in London on 14 October 2016. Hope to see you there!
