Acivico consultants appointed on £5.6m school extension for Kings Heath Boys School in Birmingham

Construction works have now commenced at the Kings Heath Boys School in Kings Heath, Birmingham. The £5.6m project will deliver a 240-place extension for the school, future proofing the school with the provision of 30 additional student placements. The new seven form entry school model will unite the current fragmented buildings, providing a central hub for students and teachers to interact within informal break out areas.

Acivico are delighted to be providing project management, quantity surveying, clerk of works and CDM services to the contract.

Ryan Turner, Education Account Manager at Acivico, said, ‘Improving educational facilities in Birmingham is vitally important to ensure the Midlands has a strong future. Acivico has been working alongside school stakeholders and Birmingham City Council to help develop and improve educational facilities across the region as well as providing much needed additional school places. Investment in education is crucial to ensure we develop leaders of the future and this is a vitally important project for the children of Birmingham”.

Enabling works commenced in July 2020, with first phase works commencing in November 2020 and completion of the contract due late 2021. Once complete, the new building will provide a three-storey, 14,854 square foot building. The extension offers staff facilities, laboratories and food technology facilities, classrooms, music room and a conference room.

The demolition and redevelopment of part of the existing school building is currently nearing completion, with the construction of a single storey new 1,743 square foot kitchen extension.

Mr Etheridge, Headteacher at Kings Heath Boys School said; ‘Kings Heath Boys already has unparalleled facilities and grounds within the local area. This new development containing 7 specialist classrooms and multi-use communal spaces will only enhance our offer further. As we expand due to increased demand this landmark design will ensure that Kings Heath Boys becomes the school of choice in its community for many years to come.’
