Tile Cross Academy is part of the Washwood Heath Multi-academy Trust and caters for students 11-16 years of age. The project consists of a new community sports Hall, MUGA and four classrooms along with the recladding of the science block with part internal refurbishment.

Originally one large campus, Acivico completed a feasibility study to split both Brays and Tile Cross schools into two areas. The study concluded a new community sports hall was required, incorporating both changing rooms and four new classrooms. The classrooms are incorporated at the upper level within the roof frame, hence providing an economical solution combining sports function with teaching accommodation. The project commenced in July 2018 and is due for completion in mid 2020.

Site Considerations

Gaining safe access to the Brays School behind which a severe SEN school and designing a site layout to reflect the schools special needs.

The design was complete using 3D software with Lumion rendering. The use of videos provided a visual representation of the architectural design for the client.

Architectural Design

The sleek curved shape of the building has been conceived to be prominent to the other existing buildings on the site and act as a multi-purpose sports hub for the community.

The science block will also receive a complete reclad using HPL rainscreen panels and featuring a striking three dimensional prismatic effect.
