A flagship project for  EdSi, the 9,000m2 new build Starbank School is the largest all through school in the authority.

As part of the CWM framework,Thomas Vale were appointed by Acivico to design and deliver an All-Through school in response to the increasing demands for additional secondary pupil spaces within the local area.

The former Starbank Primary School was spread over three sites. The new consolidated school offers accommodation for 1,320 pupils, consisting of 420 primary places over two entry forms and 900 secondary pupils of six forms of entry.

The development site had a number of constraints to overcome including a tight entrance and restrictive development area. An existing educational building was on the site which was demolished as part of the contract works. The new build school was then constructed partially over the footprint of the demolished building and the existing playing field. The school incorporated civils works and extensive external works to provide a new access from the highway with new utility services feeding the site.

The project also provided a facility for community use in the form of a new Sport England compliant sports hall and changing areas. The scheme was subject to an Acivico led value management workshop in the earliest stage to ensure the project was value for money and begun on solid foundations to meet and ultimately exceed the clients requirements.
