Services - Project Management

Due to the anticipated growth in pupil numbers anticipated over the next two years, St Mary’s Church of England Primary and Nursery school is expanding from a one form entry school to a two form entry school.

The school is a larger than average size primary school located within a predominantly residential area in the district of Handsworth, Birmingham. The project involves the provision of a new three storey extension at the rear of the school and a new one storey extension at the front of the building to accommodate a new entrance / holding area.

The proposed extension is a three storey building to the southern end of the main school building, on an area which is predominantly planted and adjoins the main school playground. Within the main school building, it is proposed to construct a single storey extension to the reception / administration office area, undertake minor refurbishment of the studio and form two reception classrooms.

The St Mary’s school works will be a two phase development consisting of the following:

Phase 1

Construction of the reception / administration office area extension, studio refurbishment and two reception classrooms.

Phase 2

Construction of the three storey extension classroom building.

The new school will provide approximately 916sqm gross internal area to accommodate;

  • 6nr standard and 2nr reception classrooms
  • Various WC clusters and isolated WC facilities
  • Spatial improvements and refurbishment to ancillary staff rooms, offices and general admin rooms
  • Storage rooms
  • Plant room

Health and Safety

Works are underway whilst the school is fully operational. Careful consideration has been made for the segregation of works from the staff and pupils, along with consideration towards noise pollution from the works.
