Kings Norton Boys School accommodates over 600 students aged 11-18 years. The current aging and undersized sports hall has been revitalised and replaced with a brand new community sports hall. Due to commence on site in 2019, our architectural team have over one year of preparatory work, developed  the design to to incorporate a new four court community sports hall. This project was one of the first priority school building programme projects to receive funding within the UK.

Design Development

Close collaboration was undertaken throughout the design development with the Education and Skills Funding Agency, resulting in four fully costed option appraisals prior to the final design solution being agreed.

Planning permission was achieved with commendations from members of the public regarding the design at the public consultation meetings. A simple design was utilised, which also offered the added benefit of aesthetically pleasing detailing. The simple portal frame boasts north light roof using timber side sip panels and a metal composite roof.

Stakeholder Liason

The design process included a public consultation, complete with a 3D model video of the design proposal.  This provided a visual representation of the building and ensured all stakeholders were fully engaged with the scheme. This enabled swift approvals from all parties involved.
